The design of this machine addresses some of the issues we've experienced with other robotic mop and vacuum cleaners, such as brushes that get caught in hair and the brush not being able enough to reach the flooring underneath furniture. The sweeping performance is also impressive on carpets and flooring. The vacuum/mop has a high level debris pickup and the mop is able to quickly soak up flooring.

Miele Scout RX3

Miele is a name synonymous with quality and innovation in the field of robotic vacuuming. This new robot is designed to take the cleaning performance to a new level, with its innovative features.

The RX3 has a dual-suction system and intelligent mapping that incorporates 3D mapping as well as a camera which transmits an image in real-time to your smartphone. Its powerful four-stage cleaning system provides excellent dust removal on carpet and hard floors, while its easy-to-use side brushes with a swing-out feature and two suction channels clean in corners. The 8.5 cm height allows it to fit under furniture that is low, and front cameras and infrared sensors assist it navigate obstacles and thresholds with ease.

In our test of how it cleaned baking soda near baseboards and in corners The Scout RX3 was impressive. Its 2,500Pa of suction was less powerful than other robots but it moved quickly and was very quiet. It didn't mop and its removable cleaning pad was a challenge to attach. It also couldn't handle dirt that was dried on.

Its app is on the basic side and lacks features such as multiple cleaning modes and automated scheduling. It is compatible with Alexa however its voice commands aren't precise or responsive. It's also flaky when it comes to navigating its way back to the charging station after a run other robots are able to trace a previous path or follow a wall around until they get to their destination, but the RX3 just bumbles about until it quits and sends a failure message to your phone.

We also encountered issues with the intelligent features of the device, namely its mapping feature and digital stay-out zones. While it did a decent job of keeping away from our furniture legs and shoes but it could easily be caught by cables and socks and it was not able to manage the tassels on rug. We decided not to include the Scout RX3 in our Best Buy list. The Scout RX3 offers a good price and a dazzling performance. It's worth a look as an alternative to the traditional uprights.
